Firewall Protection

For the most part, BullGuard’s firewall feature is very easy to use and you’ll find very effective at keeping out online threats. It has two modes which cater for experienced and less experienced users.

If you are new to BullGuard, then the beginner mode should be your first choice. It allows you to change how some programs are used within the firewall. You will be able to configure it to your needs, and ensure that all viruses are kept out. However, it will not be able to limit specific ports, which can be an issue when your PC is seriously under attack. But this shouldn’t pose too much of a problem because the firewall should detect and assign the correct ports based on the program you are using.

The advanced mode provides you with three distinct profiles to choose from. These are high security, low security and custom security. We don’t recommend using low security because it’s like not having a firewall at all. The high security should be one of your choices but it will block all programs accessing the internet. You might then have to constantly turning it on and off constantly.

Custom security should be your first choice as it allows you to set it to any level you want. Within these three levels you have the ability to set up advanced rules and have several logging options.

Ease of Use

BullGuard Internet Security is very easy to install and setup. The main screen is easy to navigate and includes well labelled options for you to easily access. The buttons are neatly arranged on the left of the interface, and each leads to a more detailed description of its function. The Main button, which is at the top provides you with system status for Updates, Antivirus, Antispyware, Firewall and SpamFilter. So if you notice a problem identified by the firewall, for example, you can easily navigate to the firewall section and deal with the problem.

Technical Support

BullGuard doesn’t offer phone support and we found that a bit surprising considering how much they’ve put into developing their software. On the other hand, you probably won’t need it because it’s a very effective Internet security software program.

They’ve provided other support options though, like live chat and email support which are both available within the software and the website. You can also access the forum and FAQ section to find more solutions to any problems you have with the software. These are very comprehensive and you probably won’t need to contact BullGuard directly in case of a problem.
