Norman Internet Security Suite 8 is a little known security software product that has some good online protection features. It combines antivirus, antispyware and firewall features in one interface to provide top protection from malware (malicious software) threats. Although not one of the best internet security software suites we’ve reviewed, we are sure it is more than capable of providing protection for your Home PCs.

Some of its interface features are a bit troublesome and occasionally freeze as you try to navigate from one menu to another.

Antispyware Software Protection

Norman Security Suite has an above average antispyware suite that’s capable of removing Trojans and other spyware threats on your PC. It has acceptable spyware detection and removal rates but unfortunately it misses some cookies, which is rather surprising for an antispyware program.

Antivirus Software Protection

Our review of the antivirus software in Norman Security suite showed it to be very effective at removing viruses. Despite being a bit slow, it caught all the threats in our test system with little effort.

Norman includes several technologies to keep your PC virus-free. These include traditional signature file matching which is the first layer of protection. It is backed up by Norman DNA matching, which recognises new malware variants that consist of malicious components. Norman Sandbox is the behavioural analysis layer where programs are observed in a virtual test environment to see how they act before releasing them. The last antivirus protection feature is Norman Exploit Detection which finds and detects vulnerabilities in applications.

Firewall Security

Norman Firewall is a good security feature which provides the necessary protection from malware. The default version isn’t very powerful, so you might need to learn the software a little so you can configure it for more advanced protection. Once you’re over this hurdle, you’ll find it easy to tweak and it will block all known dangers. Overall, the firewall is good and works well, but Norman will need to do more to fix the configuration utility and the default protection.

Other Security Features

Norman Internet Security doesn’t have many new outstanding features and this is what causes it to lag behind other top security suites. However, we’ve found the Parental Controls efficient, and we are sure will help protect your kids online.

Using the Parental Controls in the interface is very easy and you can easily configure them to your needs. The wizard will walk you through the process of setting up additional users, passwords, time limitations and more. And it will block all websites that host pornographic material and other harmful threats.

Technical Support

Every security software product should provide good support when things go wrong. Norman Internet Security is not lacking here, and looking at its support options, you’re sure to be covered when there’s a problem. They have phone, email, FAQs, forums, and program help support options. And you can download setup and usage guides from the Norman support website.

Summary

Norman Security suite has some positive features which we like. It might not be the best internet security software, but we still like its performance and we are sure many users will too.
